Get the FAQ's Frequently asked questions Should I get a web site? Yes, that is if you plan to be in the real estate business for more than 12 months. Most buyers and many sellers are using the internet to search for homes, find agents, and get information about real estate all over the country. If you don't have a web site it's hard to compete in this very competitive business. I already have a web page with REALTOR.com, should I get another site? Only if you want people to be able to find you easier or if you want more business from the web. What's the difference between a custom site and one provided through my ISP (internet service provider) or REALTOR.com? A free site through AOL or some other internet source will usually have limitations as to what you can and cannot do. They usually display annoying advertisements and do not have a unique web address that you can advertise for people to find the site. A custom site can have whatever information you want on it, has a unique web address (www.YourName.com), can be submitted to specific search engine directories and has a monthly hosting fee. If a custom site is constructed and marketed properly, it can produce leads daily. What's the difference between a web page and a web site? A web site usually has several pages, a unique domain name (web address like www.MoveInSoon.com), belongs to the person that pays for it, and can have any information that the owner wants to have on it. A web page is usually one page, is very limited as to what you can put on it, is controlled by the parent site, does not have a unique domain name, and can basically disappear at any time. Usually a web site is more profitable than a web page. What is a domain name? A domain name is a web address. Also know as a url, like: www.MoveInSoon.com. They are leased by the year and usually cost $35 per year. You can own as many as you want and many web sites companies can point several domain names to the same web site. They can have different extensions like MoveInSoon.tv or MoveInSoon.org. The most common in the *.com names. What is Hosting? Web site hosting is the place that a web site is physically located. Every web site is located on a computer web site server somewhere. There are thousands of places to host web sites but it's best to use a company that host many sites and not just a few. There is usually a cost to host a site with a hosting company. Some charge a fee while other display advertising banners on your site in exchange for money. The hosting company is usually responsible for keeping the site up and running 24 hours a day. How much should I spend for a web site? It all depends on your goals and purpose for the site. Some sites are constructed from templates while others are all custom. Templates are usually less expensive. A custom web site will have a unique design and look to it and can cost thousands of dollars. How long should it take to have my web site built? A web site that is database driven can be built in a matter of minutes (like the REALTOR.com sites). Template sites are usually built in a few days, while custom sites can take weeks or even months depending on the size of the site and how long it takes you to get information to the web master.
